Having struggled with anxiety for many years, I understand how debilitating it can be. Depression, grief, and life changes can be so challenging to manage that we lose ourselves. Do you believe that things can be different for you?
My role as a counselor is to provide a space where clients can be vulnerable and open about their challenges, and it’s a privilege for me to do so. Utilizing a collaborative approach, we identify realistic goals that promote better well-being and improved quality of life. Drawing upon cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and other modalities, we gradually learn skills and restructure how we think to achieve reprieve from these struggles. It’s so worth it to do the work. There is an excerpt from Pema Chodron’s book “When Things Fall Apart” that I especially appreciate when thinking about this type of work. It goes: "There is a teaching that says that behind all hardening and tightening and rigidity of the heart, there's always fear. But if you touch fear, behind fear, there is a soft spot. And if you touch that soft spot, you find the vast blue sky." What does the blue sky look like for you, and how can we get there?
